How can funeral be personalized?
There are many ways to
personalize a funeral. One of the options include the displaying of
pictures and mementos. We have magnetic picture boards, tripods and many
tables for displaying these items. Other methods include playing music
that was liked by the deceased and by having a close friend or family
member say a eulogy.
Who is in charge of funeral
arrangements?
The Executor and/or next
of kin have the legal responsibility in the disposition of the deceased.
Whenever possible all of the immediate family should be included in the
decisions regarding funeral arrangements.
Can a funeral be prearranged?
Yes. Most of the details
of a funeral can be arranged for in advance and can be paid for if you
wish.
Can I prearrange my funeral without
paying?
Yes. You can arrange all
the details of a funeral and the costs can be paid at a later date or at
the time of the funeral.
Can I get my money back if I move or
decide to cancel?
Yes. All monies including
principal and accrued interest must be returned when a written request
for cancellation is received. An administration fee may be kept by the
funeral home in the event of the cancellation of a contract.
Should I have an open casket?
Yes. Realizing and
accepting that a death has occurred is an important step in the grief
process. Viewing the body helps facilitate this very important step.
What is a memorial service?
A memorial service is
simply a funeral service where the body of the deceased is not present
or only the cremated remains of the person are present.
What is embalming?
Embalming is a process
where a body is sanitized and preserved through the injection of
chemicals. The outside of the body is also cleaned and sanitized with
soaps and disinfectants. The preparation of a body may also include
dressing, cosmetics, hairdressing and other restorative procedures.
The entire procedure from start to finish can take from 1.5 to
3 hours to complete.
Only a licensed funeral
director or a registered apprentice may perform the embalming procedure.
Embalming is not required
by law but is necessary if there is to be viewing of the body or if
there may be an extended period of time before burial or cremation.
Can the family of a young woman
request a woman to do the embalming and maintain the dignity of the
deceased?
If the funeral home has a
female embalmer available then yes. Not all funeral homes have female
embalmers so in some cases this may not be possible. No matter what the
situation every effort is made to maintain the dignity of the deceased.
