Denning Bros. - A Brief
History
After receiving his
funeral director's license in 1924, Basil Denning along with his brother
Forest opened Denning Bros. Funeral Home on Front Street in Strathroy in
1925. Along with the funeral home they started a furniture business and
an ambulance service. After two years Basil purchased his brother's
interest in the businesses and became the sole owner.

In 1939 the funeral home
and ambulance service were moved to it's current location on Metcalfe
Street West in
Strathroy.
Until her death in 1973,
Basil's wife Mina took an active role in the operation of the funeral
home. Basil and Mina had three children. Their daughter Norma now lives
out west. Their sons Bill and Alan became active in the funeral home
early on. Bill became licensed in 1950 and Alan became licensed in 1960.
Bill's son Richard
currently works full time at the funeral home. Rick became a licensed
funeral director in 1979. Alan also has a son Brad who became licensed in 1987
and is working full time in the family business.

Denning Bros. - Today
Today, Denning Bros.
Funeral Home is still a completely family run business. We are now into
our fourth generation of licensed family funeral directors. It is a long
standing tradition of which we are very proud.
We currently have 3
licensed family members working at the funeral home and 2 additional
licensed funeral directors.
The funeral home has been
at it's current location at 32 Metcalfe St. W., Strathroy since 1939,
but has gone through some major changes over the years. The most recent
change being the complete revamping of the exterior of the building and
the construction of a new entrance to the home. The funeral home is
centrally located and very easy to find.

There are four visitation
rooms in the funeral home. The largest of these rooms is also used as a
chapel for funeral services. Over 300 people can be accommodated for a
service with a video camera and monitors allowing everyone to see and
hear the service in progress. There is audio equipment for
the playing of CD's or taped music that families bring in or that has been
selected from our library of music. We also have both a piano
and an organ available.
The main floor of the
funeral home also has two restrooms and a comfortable lounge with fresh
coffee and cold water always available.
There is a large parking
area at the west side and rear of the building and plenty of additional parking
in other areas within easy walking distance of the funeral home.
